Wednesday, December 18th, 2024, Northwestern Energy Representatives convened with the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, which included members of the Northern Cheyenne Tribal Council and the President’s Office. Before the formal meeting took place in the Tribal chambers located at the Little Wolf Capital Building, the North Western Energy Representatives had the opportunity to tour the Northern Cheyenne reservation in Lame Deer, Montana. This tour was offered as a welcoming gesture, especially considering that many of the representatives had never previously visited the reservation or had only traveled to a limited area within it.

Following the informative tour, the sit-down portion of the meeting commenced. After introducing themselves, the Northern Cheyenne Tribe’s Renewable Energy lead, Otto Braided Hair III, delivered a concise presentation outlining the Tribe’s dedicated efforts toward renewable energy initiatives. In turn, the representatives from Northwestern Energy provided their own introductions and gave a brief speech expressing their hopes and aspirations for fostering a productive working relationship with the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. An open discussion then proceeded, allowing each member to share their views. The topics of discussion encompassed various resources available for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, explored alternative forms of fuel, and examined some of the potential benefits and challenges that would need to be addressed with the implementation of different types of fuel sources.
